Make America sick again: diabetes

Originally posted on KO Rural Mad As Hell Blog:
The trend in diabetes treatment is clear: keep Americans sick. The guidelines say that as soon as we diagnose type II diabetes, we should start a medicine. Usually metformin. A recent study says that teaching patients to use a glucometer and to check home blood sugars is useless. The key word here is teach, because when I get a diabetic transferring into my clinic, the vast majority have not been taught much of anything. What is the goal for your blood sugar? They don’t know. What is normal fasting? What is normal after you eat? What is the difference between checking in the morning and when should you check it after a meal? What is a carbohydrate? What is basic carbohydrate counting? I think that the real problem is that the US medical system assumes that patients are stupid and doesn’t even attempt to teach them. And patients just give up. New patient recently, diabetes diagnosed four years ago, on metformin for two years, and has…

Commit

via Daily Prompt: Commit My intention is to commit to the chase of creative writing, as a witness to my on change. Somethings that once brought passion in one’s own life can get pushed back so far that they are no longer on the Burner. the hesitation of putting word to paper or now a days to screen can be intimidating. To Blog or Not to Blog is still the Question. Is the writing that you do fun and enticing or that blank screen? Is there a never ending critic badgering you on the worthiness of your writing? Do you sit back and organize and reorganize your thoughts into oblivion? does spell-check destroy the very essence of your thought process? Well, join me and commit to write with passion and moderately good sentence structure!

Loop, the never ending circle

via Daily Prompt: Loop You just can’t always see it coming. It calls for a quick mind and everlasting patience. Something that is meant to be a shortcut can be anything but a shortcut. As I was heading home from a visit with a friend in part of Phoenix that I had never been to, I was to learn the mysteries of Loop 101 and 202. Those shortcuts around a city in the desert of 3 million folks. Mind you I have been in other places with loops and I seem to never know where I am going. By the way, I normally don’t get lost except when a loop is involved. Oh, and Garmin isn’t helpful either. But I stray from a saga! You know how big cities have different highway systems other than the interstate highway system. Well, if you aren’t familiar with these road and where they go , boy can you get lost. When lost there is no guarantee that people in the area know other parts of their town either! …

A breath taken

via Daily Prompt: Relieved It is hard to say what was actually going on, but everybody had something to say. So many witnesses and too many different stories. At this point who could say what was right and what was wrong. Today it is called alternative truths. But I was there and I know what happened. Remember the game we played as children, whispering a message into the next persons ear. We all laughed when we heard the last person repeat it out loud, because we knew it was wrong. They were wrong, but each of us was relieved that we weren’t the last person telling the tale. To that poor kid last standing repeating the message, it was their truth. How could they be wrong? Each of us at the start of the process, took a deep breath relieved that our part was completed. We are laughing now relieved that it was just a game.

She dwells within

via Daily Prompt: Blossom She was standing tall against the wind. Her face was turned towards to the brightness of what she thought might be the Sun. She felt her toes pressing down into the sand, reminding herself of the strength of her roots. It was a time of change. What type of change was uncertain. She could feel a strangeness in the air. It was a time to redirect her energies, but how? Her heart was expanding as her head continued to follow the brightness above her. There was growth and exuberance within her very being. Now she understood. She was becoming blossom meant to draw bees to help her kind to continue.

It was done in a moment!

Did you see it coming? Was that your breath so strongly held, that you were about to pass out? Oh wait that was just the winds of change! The foundation of your worlds may have just been swept away or maybe just nudged a bit! When the impossible happens does anyone actually win? The winner of that moment may be swept away in just a moment as you were. This is not about saving the past but creating a future. can you grasp that thought!

The How to ….create

via Daily Prompt: Total It was box with all the necessary pieces included. I had ordered it through a catalog, Sears and Roebuck, you know. It was a price that I could manage. It came with a masterplan which included two different blueprints. These folks are just amazing. I had needed help picking it up. It was much bigger than I could have imagined. Think of it, me building my own place. Creating a safe place for my family. How did they come to creat this possibility right down to the very last nail. I could create my home from a box. I thank the man that decided to make a book full of everything. Just think, they built a house and counted all the pieces and then put it in a box. The total cost of my house was $872.00. Did you get it! The total cost was $872.00!

Holding the Spotlight to a Paragon of Virtue

via Daily Prompt: Paragon Loneliness is the key. He or she sits at the outer edge of the group. He or she longs to be part of that inner circle. He or she sits at the center of the circle holding everyone’s attention with those glowing words of wisdom. Centered within a knowledge gifted from the divine spreading that golden light where ever he or she goes. Slowly the eyes rise and scan the room, he or she notices the lonely ones waiting to be seen. The glance and slight smile begins to draw them in. To be drawn into the conversation is blissful. To receive a touch from gifted one raises the energy even more. He or she imagines the loneliness will fade. The rapture that envelopes he or she hides the problems of this inner circle. The Golden one is never questioned. Loneliness is the key. Attention is not always advised. When the inappropriate happens, who will hold the spotlight to this supposed Paragon of virtue?

A wound unintended, Puncture

I felt piercing, burning and unrelenting pain. I had not seen the goat thorn hidden in plain site. Such a small plant, a common plant here in the desert. Never having lived in the desert before I had nothing to base my experience on. They hid in plain sight especially in the border of Bermuda grass. When I took my sandal off there it was, well lodged in the sole of my shoe. The head of the goat thorn creates a puncture wound. Looking around, I saw a knowing smile from a passerby. The first I had heard of them was a bike rider standing next to a very flat tire. “Damn those goat thorns”, was muttered as I walked past. The plants of the desert help you to understand the pain of a puncture wound!
